One never knows what the subject of a photo will be. Carry one lens and you’ll need another on the day. That’s life. Here’s what I’ve ended up with as a small “travel kit”. It’s enough to take out on a day to capture everything but wide angle shots (something seldom done unless travelling). Concerts? Covered, no matter the lighting conditions. Wildlife? Mostly. 300mm is fine if you creep close enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Panasonic G85 Body
Panasonic 20mm f\/1.7 prime (pancake) lens. ~40mm equiv.
Panasonic 45-150mm f\/4-5.6 zoom lens. ~90-300mm equiv.
Voigtlander Nokton 42.5mm f\/0.95 prime. ~85mm equiv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It’s not perfect. There’s large gap from the 20mm to 42.5mm, nothing wide and an overlap around the latter length. It can be fixed (and a ton of weight saved) by swapping the Voigtlander for a standard 12-60mm kit lens or the like. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the Voigtlander is a party trick of sorts. Shove the camera on full manual and have away in almost any condition (in bright light a ND filter is often needed). Candlelight concert? Covered. It will shoot in very low lighting conditions. And the depth of field and compression can be excellent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Though I’ll confess, I’m not yet worthy of this piece of kit, one keeps trying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If just heading out with a body, the 20mm pancake lens stays on. So slim I can pop the camera into my laptop bag and forget about it. Zoom = Feet!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
