I won&#8217;t name them as the practice seems common and to their credit, they have now changed the article&#8217;s text to better reflect the present pandemic rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A number of published articles recently have included blanket statements such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>British Columbia restrictions include a ban on gathering with anyone outside one&#8217;s household<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is <strong>not<\/strong> accurate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you read <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/safety\/emergency-preparedness-response-recovery\/covid-19-provincial-support\/restrictions\">British Columbia&#8217;s Official Province-wide Restrictions<\/a> document it states that this restriction applies to multi-person households. Single-person households have a limited exemption in that they are allowed to have up to two outside contacts (expand the &#8220;Core bubble&#8221; portion of the document linked above). There are also some exceptions for other cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Somewhere around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/calgary\/2019\/03\/06\/more-canadians-are-living-alone-than-ever-before-statistics-canada.html\">four million Canadians over the age of 15<\/a> live alone and many either don&#8217;t work, or work from home these days. Expecting them all to completely isolate themselves 24\/7 isn&#8217;t reasonable:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>extended isolation has been shown to cause both physical and mental illness. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mhconn.org\/uncategorized\/isolation-impacts-mental-health\/\">1<\/a>) (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/mar\/18\/coronavirus-isolation-social-recession-physical-mental-health\">2<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>one may need to move for some reason. From escaping a abusive partner to being evicted or renovicted. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/blog\/when-lockdown-is-not-actually-safer-intimate-partner-violence-during-covid-19-2020070720529\">1<\/a>) (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/canada\/article-covid-19-surge-in-renovictions-complicate-montreals-traditional-2\/\">2<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>nobody knows when this will end. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/lifestyle\/health\/covid-19-pandemic-may-take-four-to-five-years-to-end-uncertainities-to-remain-singapore-minister\/2178949\/\">1<\/a>) (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.news-medical.net\/news\/20210204\/COVID-19-vaccination-alone-may-not-end-the-pandemic.aspx\">2<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The risk from a single person household who is obeying the pandemic rules can be very low. For instance: I generally work and live alone and only frequent businesses respecting the rules (grocery shopping off-peak, only buying take-out, wearing a mask outdoors when near others etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that going for a &#8220;safe walk&#8221; is also within the current rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can, please get outside!
